Focus-Stacking with the Raynox-250

Kalanchoe Bloom

Well, I bought my wife a little 4" pot of Kalanchoe flowers.  She wasn't overcome with emotion, but said, "I suspect you of having an ulterior motive."  The first photo shows the size of one of the blooms: about 12 mm maximum left-to-right.  The central cavity is about 2 mm wide.

The next image is from focus-stacking 81 photos using the "push-screw method", described earlier.  The photos were taken with my SX50 at full optical zoom, f/5.8 and infinite focus with the Raynox-250 closeup lens.  The first photo was focused behind any visible detail at the bottom of the flower and each subsequent photo was taken 0.1 mm closer.  So, in all, a depth of about 8 mm was covered.  The photos were stacked automatically using Zerene Stacker (link in an earlier post).  After a little adjustment of highlights and shadows and a little sharpening in PhotoShop Elements 9, here is the result:
