Typical lenses don't don't get much wider than 1.4, most small camera lenses don't come close to that aperture, and the increase in depth of field is greater than any "compensation" you imagine for shooting wider, especially given that many of us shoot wide open all the time.

Look at a DOF chart, there are plenty online, and there are DOF apps for your phone, too. You will see what I mean.
