Re: Lens Help for a New Photographer

I've got two grandchildren, and I can't praise the 45mm enough. It's a superb lens for children. Small, bright, fast to focus. You can maintain a bit of distance and get a great portrait. As they become toddlers, again, it gives you just a little bit of reach so you can get nice, fairly tight shots while they're at play. The kit 12-50 is good enough for the wider angles.

If there was only one lens I could get to photograph children with, it'd be the 45mm.
