Ask yourself what you need the D800 for

Just ask yourself whether you need to advantages of Full Frame over M4/3. If you do, then no argument about size and weight should change your decision.

Basically, the differences boil down to:

1)     Shallower Depth of Focus

2)     Higher ISO performance

3)     Better focus tracking

If these features are important to you, then D800 (or D600) is the way to go. But if I understand your requirements correctly, it sounds like OM-D would serve you much better, considering that you’ll already have your hands full with the child, leaving no much room for the bulk of a D800.
