Re: Nikon 24-85mm f3.5-4.5G IF-ED

It is truly a great lens. Last week I went to B&H in NYC and it felt real strange when I was trying the 24-85 right along side the 28-70 and 85 1.4. The 85 1.4 was the hands down winner however I really wanted to replace my 24-120 with a 2.8 lens so I ended up getting the 28-70 in the color grey. They were out of black. I must say I brought home a couple photos made with the 24-85 and they seemed every bit as sharp as the 28-70. Since I have now had the 28-70 for more than a week I find that taking portraits with this lens may not work out well. It is very sharp, however it is very intimidating to the people I try to phograph. Most people are afraid of it.

yeah the lens is cheap, but sure takes great photos considering I
bought mine used for $270, so for that price I'm a happy camper!

I bought this lens and i'm very happy with the pictures quality
obtained. However, I notice that the front elements have a lot of
free play, "loose wigling". I can feel they're loosed when I hold
and move the lenses in my hand. Is it normal that "free play" for a
"G" type or my lenses is defected? How about the upcoming model
24-120G which is similar? Any thoughs or comments? Thanks.
