Hi Hans! Yes, I might have been a little tough in my post saying it is either one way or the other. Anyway my point is, that with a high quality camera, you should also have high quality lenses. With my own cameras (D40 and D90) I have seen a very big difference from the Nikon 18-55 VR to the Nikon 18-70 (better colors and sharpness) and to the Sigma 17-50 2.8 (radically better quality in terms of colors, sharpness and shadow area resolution).

I agree with you, that there is a great advantage in having a focus motor in the camera, especially when the OP already has two AF-D lenses.
