Shutterfly Snaps up thislife.com
Thislife.com was just purchased by shutterfly.
This could be interesting; thislife was a fairly small startup with an interesting take on photo storage. Will shutterfly give them the big guns they need to overtake the smugmugs of the world?
Or will they suck up their tech into their own service and shut down the separate web site?
Given that shutterfly also picked up the similar Photoccino.com my guess is that shutterfly plans on rolling the tech from both companies into their online photo sharing/printing service then shutting down the overlapping/competing web sites.
If I was smugmug, the last of the independants (now that zen was snapped up by art.com), I would be very nervous. Given how smug's development has stalled it would be easy to see shutterfly wrapping it's three core technologies (printing, photo vault, auto "story" generation) into a real smugmug killer.
