Al, you are right.

I personally do not like using VIVID. I find it too harsh for skin tones.  This is what I do, weddings and portraits.

I can always add some more saturation or contrast in post work.

I use lightroom which allows to do this easily.

But at a wedding with time constaints and brides crying and bridal party members getting lost and drunk and the DJ cutting me off,

I find that using a neutral setting gives me the starting point in lightroom to shap the images any way I want.  My final image is usually very close to how I shot it.
