Nikon F80

If you want AF, I can warmly recommend the Nikon F80 (N80 in the US). It was the last advanced amateur SLR from Nikon, and it's easy to find more or less new ones. I just found one brand new in box in a shop for $100 including battery grip. If you settle for a lightly used one, you should be able to buy it for the same price including a lens or two.

For manual focus, Olympus OM-2 is a great option. There are lots of them and any of the lenses available for silly low prices. Start with a 50mm and go from there.
