Re: Dont know what kind of camera to buy

People seem to be interpreting this question as self-contradictory (you want dslr image quality but don't want to do more than P&S.

I'd look at it a different way:

1. The simplcity question is really a matter of two things: a 'full auto mode' and fast and accurate auto-focus. Those are the core must haves.

2. The wildcard criterion is low-light performance.

a If interior/low-light is important, then consider going with a mirrorless or even one of the compact/midsize dslrs. Low-light generally means more glass and a bigger sensor, so what you're going to pay for the low-light capability is size and weight. Mirrorless or not, you're going to be "carrying a camera" in a way you're not doing now.

b. If low light is really important, then you're going to have to resign yourself to some training/study. Low-light levels put more stress on auto-focus speed and reliability, so you'll get better pictures with your mirrorless or small dslr if you're willing to work with it a bit.

3. If low-light shooting isn't all that big a deal, then a compact with midrange zoom is probably a better all around choice. Still going to give you better pictures than your phone, but going to be cheaper/lighter/smaller than the larger-sensor mirrorless. But there will be situations where your phone can't get a good shot, and neither will the camera.

my take anyway,
