What to pair with a 7D?
I have been using a 7D for 3 years and am starting to look at some of the alternatives. The possibilities seem to be 5D lll, 1D4 or wait for 7D ll.
What would you advise?
My photography consistes of:-
25% Birds, birds in flight, wildlife both wild and in wildlife parks, mainly using 400 5.6 and 70-200 F4 IS. Require best possible image quality for competitions.
25% Macro, large eg butterflies etc. and small e.g. aphids and weevils and some flowers using mainly 100mm F2.8 macro, 65mm 1-5X macro with twin head flash. Require best possible images.
25% Community events, sometimes outdoors using street lighting, sometimes indoors with stage lighting or poor lighting using mainly 10-22, 17-55 and 24-105. Mainly for use in community news sheets, publicity and local papers.
15% Outdoor and indoor tennis. 70-200 F4 using mainly 70-200. Require best possible images.
10% Dabbling in landscapes and portraits etc. but not very good yet.
The 5D's low high ISO ability would help with the community photographs and might help with some of the action photography when the light is low.
The 1D4 would certainly be an improvement with the wildlife and tennis photography and might help with the community low light photography.
The 7D ll, if it ever comes out, might offer significant improvements all round but no-one knows at this time.
In a recent discussion about the best camera for macro it was unclear whether a full frame camera would improve on a crop camera, they both have different advantages and disadvantages. The 65mm 1-5X macro provides enough magnification for a crop or full frame camera even with 2mm or 3mm insects.
