Does anybody know when PDAF will be supported with the SEL35F18 lens on NEX-6 and NEX-5R?
No one knows , not even Sony. It is a reasonable expectation that as it is a very new lens that at some future date a firmware for the update will be issued but everyone knows about Sonys tardiness in issuing firmware updates.
Users should be aware that some Alpha lenses even fairly recent ones will never be made compatible with the new PDAF on-sensor focussing systems. This is not an immediate issue for existing users may some lenses may become redundant in the future if Sony drop backwards compatibility.
DK pointed out this issue in his review of the A99 which has a hybrid form of PDAF as well as the older conventional srew drive motor based system. Some fairly recent Sony AF lenses are not usable with the PDAF component focussing system.
