Also, Microsoft is making Win8's Media Center free for Windows 8 Pro owners until January 31, 2013. I applied for the Media Center product code but MS has not emailed it to me yet. If there's any problems, I'll let you know. .... This offer does not apply to Windows 8 Basic. The Basic version can be upgraded to the Pro version for about $65 or so.

I applied for the product key for a free copy of Win8 Pro's Media Center but did not receive a product key via email within the stated 72 hours. So I applied a second time. I have still not received a product key 4 days after the second request.

After not receiving a product key for Win8 Pro's Media Center after 3 tries, I did some Googling and found I was not alone.  One post said that he contacted the Microsoft Store and the technician loaded Media Center on his computer via remote control.

So I tried that and indeed it works.  If you don't receive a Media Center product key, try going to:

Initiate a chat with a tech and explain what happened.

Also, during my Googling I found a writeup that said the free Win8 Pro Media Center product key is a one time thing and that the "product key" expires on 1/31/2013.  So if you get a product key, be sure to install the Media Center before the end of January.  Then do a backup of your system as you will have to pay for Media Center if you lose your installation and don't have a backup.
