I recently did a family shoot (for one of my sons and his family) and I used a 17-55mm, at about 50mm, for many group and individual full body shots, but I also used a longer zoom and got back at about 150mm for some full shots of a teenage granddaughter, and was pleased with them. I like to do both: normal perspective, and long perspective.
