The 28-80mm could be a nice lens. But consider this: In half a year or maybe a year you will want something better, and maybe it will not be easy to sell the 28-80mm. I suppose you are shooting with a Nikon DX-camera? In that case the focal range is not perfect. You would like something starting from 17mm or 18mm. Possibilities could be a used Nikon AF-S 18-70 3.5-4.5 which is a very competent lens that can be had for a low price. I have it myself and use it for travel, when I don't want to bring more expensive lenses. Another possibility could be a  Sigma 17-70, either the old 2.8-4.5 or the new 2.8-4 with OS. The old one can likely be had used for about 150$.

The Nikon 18-70 can be bought for just above 100$ here in Denmark, and it will be a much better and more future proof lens, than the old 28-80.

A final question: Do you have screwdrive motor in your camera? If not, then you will not be able to autofocus with the Nikon 28-80mm. You would have to manually focus.

The smaller Nikon cameras doesn't have a motor. That is D40, D40X, D60, D5000, D5100 and D5200.
