Yes, there is, it's daft when you see people prattling on about "when is Oly going to release a 25mm F1.8?" as if the PL 25mm didn't exist (and if you post on those threads no one replies to you...). I take it as a lack of familiarity with M43s. People will learn...

Everyone on here knows full well the Panasonic Leica 25mm exists, and a lot of people want to have it, it is highly coveted. However, seeing as it is m43's "normal" lens, and in all other interchangeable lens camera systems the normal prime lens has been the simplest to design and cheapest to make, they want another, cheaper option.

The conclusion is that since the PL 25mm is a Leica design, that you are "paying for the name" a little with that lens, there is a price hike on it just because of who designed it. Yes, that is a simplification I know, the PL 25mm has great build quality and is currently the m43 lens with the largest relative aperture, the f/1.4 normal prime on other systems was always the premium option.

Peoples experience of other systems tells them that a slightly slower normal prime should be the cheapest of all the primes available, and on m43 such a prime does not exist. Hence people are asking for one, and ignore you when you suggest the premium option because it is not what they are asking for.
