Yikes! I think you're the only one who's ever posted a sensorsoot problem here. I hope your lungs faired better than the camera.
Good cleaning job. Is it harder to remove than "regular" dust, like on the shutter curtain, mirror mechanism, etc.? Not that I intend to ever have that happen, but just wondering.

Sensor soot...LOL! As far as my lungs, hey, it's organic! I figure it can't be much worse than what I breath from buses and trucks when I have to drive into the city. Plus, once you understand the burn conditions and how the fire and smoke react to it, you can 'mostly' stay out of the smoke.
Yeah, I'm sure vehicle exhaust is probably worse. When I worked summer trail crew at the ski area, in the fall when there was some snow on the ground we had to watch over large burn piles made from cutting trees for ski runs. I know what you mean about dodging the smoke. Seemed like just when you got out of it the wind would shift again, lol.
As you can see in the last image, I purposely shot the tree through some intense heat. There are a lot of embers and ash flying around, but I was up wind of it, so the air was fresh.
You could capture some nice surreal photos through the heat waves from those fires. Crop out the flames and shoot when there was little debris in the air. You probably have some of those already, though.
It really wasn't any different to clean it than any other dust. I used the same routine...blower on focus screen, mirror and mirror box. Then blower on sensor followed by wet cleaning.
Thanks Nick!
