I'm with you, Throggy. (For those who haven't heard me say this a hundred times before...) I generalise that to a principle - if it's compulsory in the Basic Zone you're probably better off without it in the Creative Zone. IOW, if Canon are doing something clever to solve a photographic problem for a non-photographer, that will sooner or later get in the way of a creative photographer.
