With mirrorless, the sensor is always on whether you looked at the EVF or LCD.

The way to fix this is to set the camera to display QuickNavi settings on the rear LCD (press the DISP button a few times until you see the QuickNavi setting screen).

In this mode, the sensor is turned off and the EVF is also turned off if you're not actively looking at the viewfinder. So all it consumes is the rear LCD and that's not a lot of power.

Switching the rear LCD to blank/off does not work in saving power. It'll turn the sensor on and display live images on the EVF even without you looking at the view finder!
