Then you add a data drive...if the letter isn't the same LR etc will be thourohgly confused.

No it won't, if the catalog is moved as well.  Even if it is, simply right click the folder and select "find missing folder" and select it.  done and done.

Well, I never used their structure and find I like mine better.

This is so hard because you are failing to understand how things work.  If you spent 6 hours of your multiple-week upgrade simply learning, you wouldn't have had nearly as many issues and would have saved you tons of time.

I have a custom vid card in my old computer, several printers, check scanner, tablet- all require software specific to the OS. That may be a windows thing, but it cerainly means you can't just copy all and get a working computer.

I find that if you buy good equipment that doesn't come from silly manufacturers that refuse to use the built in windows API's, you can save yourself a ton of time.

The new machine came with wireless keyboard and mouse and the old one was wired - again, different drivers.

Modern keyboards don't require new drivers to work.  Are you buying stuff built by the kid down the street or the generic generic walmart model?

I rebuild computers every 3-6 months for various reasons (I like to tinker... what can I say) and I can go from a 100% brand new computer to processing with LR in about 30-45 minutes depending on how much I care to copy over.

Like I said, I suspect that if you spent a few minutes (hours?) learning the appropriate way to do things, you'd have saved yourself a ton of time.
