Jumping the Olympus 4/3 ship - for a D5100 ?

Somewhat late in the day, I'm settling on the idea the Olympus are not going to give me a DSLR replacement for my trusty but ageing E-600  - the E-5 is a whole different ballgame pricewise and the E-M5 is firstly not a DSLR and also carries a four figure price tag.

I'm a very happy P7100 shooter as my carry around so a Nikon is obviously ahead of a Canon in my book - and the D5100 seems well priced at the moment.

However, I need a primer on Nikon lens mounts and compatilbility - especially in terms of autofocus as I understand that the D5100 has no integral body autofocus.

Firstly, do all legacy Nikon lenses fit (obviously with MF) ?

Secondly, do modern alternative lenses (Sigma and Tamron) come with focus motors (I am particularly thinking about the Sigma 18-125)

Is there a good web resource that details Nikon lens mounts and their capabilities ?
