I don't see why the larger DOF would make a difference.  The AF system is supposed to focus on a point, not just somewhere within the DOF that hopefully includes the subject.  If that was the way it works, then the NEX-6 would focus faster with wide angle lenses.

Or are you saying that in practice the AF system actually doesn't lock on the subject, it locks somewhere in the DOF that usually includes the target and if we did some rigorous testing that measured the actual DOF we'd find the true focus point was not the target?
