you get a mac, plug in a new drive. It fails to work. What do YOU do?
Pack it all up and take it to the apple store?

15 minute drive 10 minutes in the store, a new box goes home with you.

Just buy more stuff and hope that works?

No.

try to fix it?

Never.

Sorry, but you will never convince me apple products work 100% of the time, every time.

Of course not.  They just work much more often than IBMPC compatibles.  Network issues are especially non-existant. Virus are so rare that when one came up last year, it made national news.  Service is on site and fast.  It is not necessary to figure out whether your problem is hardware or software.  Whatever the problem is, it's Apples problem and they fix it without complaint.

My intent wasn't to start a mac fanboy reunion.

It's hard not to jump on a MAC  fanboy reunion..  After 12 years of struggling with Windows network and security issues then switching to MAC, every day's a holiday and every meal's a banquet.
