The D600 is surprisingly soft, maybe due to its high dynamic range?! Sharp, but soft!

I have the D600 and D700, I have put the D600 away as a backup camera to the D700 because I just find my photos are far too soft looking compared to the D700 with the same lenses mounted.

I don't notice this much when shooting lanscapes much but when shooting portraits I notice even though there's a lot of detail it looks so soft and I find I have to really up the Sharpness Control sliders in my editing software to get a nice aharp photo.

The thing I really like about the D600 is the extra DR and the ability to crop extra, the Noise issue I didn't find much difference with what photos I shoot.

You could try with the sensor set at a lower resolution - sadly only available in JPEG!
