Then you only have about .5 inches for depth of field.   Try taking a photograph of something with more depth with the lens wide open.  Use center point spot focusing on a specific point and then look at the image to try to determine if the center point is in focus or if things closer or farther away are in focus.

Olympus site for E30 adjustment (essentially the same for E5)

I purchased one of the ruler kits and used a tripod with controlled lighing to compare manual and auto focus to determine most accurate focus.  However, I have found that I can easily check the focus by simply focusing on an object with depth and detail and comparing the focus in front of and behind that point.
