Re: Vanguard v. Manfrotto

I bought the Manfrotto 055XProB legs and paired them with a Vanguard SBH-250 ball head and I couldn't be happier.  I've hauled them around hiking and no problems with the weight.  At 6'1", I have to stoop slightly when the legs are extended and spread with the center column down.  I've done long exposure night shots, sometimes with star trails, in a breeze and it holds great.  Indoors, of course, is no problem.  With a fully extended Tamron 70-300mm lens on my D90 in a 35mph sustained wind, well, that's a lot to ask and it didn't work.  The horizontal extended column feature has gotten occasional use.  A recent acquisition of extension tubes will likely drive me to use that feature more often.  I've gotten to the point now where I really see the need for a remote in some situations, like longer exposures when you want to turn the image stabilization off.

So, basically, I'm very happy with my choice.
