On a wired network that would be true. However, WiFi uses a shared medium (a radio channel) and is not full duplex. The collision avoidance behavior on the air interface is going to degrade the wireless network performance as traffic increases regardless of the directionality of the traffic.

There are some outlying exceptions to this rule with some of the newest most expensive gear that can put transmit and receive on different channels, but this is rarely found in hotels and likely wouldn't be deployed correctly.

You are correct, but the bottleneck on the bandwidth is likely not the wifi link but the upstream connection which will be full duplex.
