Canon 40D without mirror?
I have an old 40D that I used to use just for timelapses until the mirror mechanism broke. I recently sent it off to Canon and the quote to replace the mirror box (that they said was necessary was more than the camera is worth so I decided against it.
I figured the camera should work fine without the mirror b/c it has liveview and I can compose and use manual focus from there.
So I pulled the mirror from my camera. I was careful and as far as I can tell I didn't damage anything else, but now when I try to take a picture or use liveview I hear a click (and a piece that presumably used to move the mirror moves) and then everything shuts off and I have to reset it by taking the battery out.
Is there a way to fix this? Can I take it apart and sever the connection to the mirror box? Download some 3rd party firmware? I'm open to anything as this camera is just taking up space.
