Nikon marketing blunder (V1-V2)

Who thinks Nikon made a marketing blunder with the V1 to V2 transition?

The V1 has been devalued by heavy discounting which has upset early buyers of the V1 and also made the V2 look way overpriced. Buyers are reluctant to purchase a V2 as a result of this depreciation.

Surely the smart move by Nikon would have been to maintain the price of the V1, fix the major issues by firmware upgrade and release the V2 a little later when they had made a significant improvement in image quality. That would have made a clear statement to Nikon 1 users that they were buying into a system that was being fully supported by Nikon, was already very advanced in its performance capabilities and was worth the purchase price.

Instead they seem to have given the message "buy a new product from us and you will pay a premium price for hardware which will never reach its true potential"
