While not as dramatic, my D600 focuses more consistently than my D7000 despite them sharing the same AF module; particularly in incandescent light. My guess is that some D7000s had AF calibration issues or they tweaked the AF module in the D600. I did eventually get fairly good results with the D7000 in low incandescent light by using 9-point AF-C release priority. In good light or daylight the D7000 was never a problem.
