Good group of posts that I think answer the OP's question. I have to agree that it's not great but it is certainly workable. I have actually shot with prescription sunglasses on. That said I too find myself cupping a hand around my eye when the sun is at certain angles. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't.

And while it is true that you can keep your eye away from the eyepiece, you then lose the ability to brace the camera in the classic manner which depending on a whole host of things may make a difference - or not.
