What do you not like about the 24-70? What aperture do you mostly shoot it and at what focal length?

My 24-70 is awesome at 35, great at 50 and pretty good at 70. It is good at 24, but the distortion is a pain.

My 50 f/1.8 G is about the same for the same apertures as my 24-70. My Tokina 50-135 f/2.8 is visibly better over the overlapping range, but my Tokina is crazy sharp compared to everything that I have tested at 50mm.

Sigma 50 f/1.4 and Nikon 50 f/1.4 G are the two 50s that I think might offer a bit more sharpness and micro contrast for you at around f/5.6 or so. These are very, very different lenses though, so do your homework.

I just read the 60mm reviews. Seems like a good bet.

I like the 24-70mm. I find that most of the shots are between 35 and 55mm, and usually have f5.6 to f8.

f5.6 is pretty good (although 4.5/5 is better but not enough). F8 is still good but was disappointed when I ventured beyond.

I guess my problem is not that the 24-70mm is not good, it is that I would like to be 'impressed' (Which I admit is hard given my skills anyway:) )
