Yet to be mentioned, I would spend a considerable amount of time shooting the dog connecting with its family/owner.  The images of a beloved pet laying in her lap. Standing/sitting beside her while looking up at her. Head in her lap or on her leg. Licking her owners face and so forth. This is the time to get those evocative shots even more so than just another dog chasing a ball.

Poses that connect the pet directly to the family will mean a great deal to the owners in time to come.
