Not only you can use it in any crop Canon camera, but it is also a very good lens for video (thanks to its 4 stop IS). I have used it handheld with my 7D for video and I was amazed with the results.

Hello Miguel

Really thanks for the positive comment, can you please a few of your videos made with Canon EF 100mm f2.8L Macro IS USM Lens on internet? it will be a big help for me and many others.

Well, this was my first handheld attempt with the EF 100L in a poor lighted bar. For the 7D, the 100L acts like a 160mm. The IS helped to avoid hand shaking to a great level.

The video is at

It's very cool, thanks for sharing.

however, the picture kind of jumps which is why I said earlier the hybrid is on the 100l is not really suitable for hand held video.

A better application would be on a tripod with the is off. From a clarity perspective the video is great. I have to retry some video with the IS off.

I don't think the hybrid IS is working when you are focusing this lens far from the macro distances, which was the case. The working IS is the normal 4 stops of current Canon lenses, while hybrid provides only one to 2 stops at shorter distances. The other thing is that the vimeo video is highly compressed, which introduces some artifacts which are not present when you connect the camera to a TV.

Of course, using a tripod highly improves the quality. I have some videos of some doves taken with my Sigma 150-500 OS at 500mm with and without OS and still the video using OS wins by far (this is different from taking stills, where the OS on a tripod can produce some problems).
