I apologize I was not more especific. I used the greatand heavy  manfroto tripod. The 70-200 was at the ring tripod mount and the 70-300 not, I used mirror lock up and the same subject at 70mm f4.5 and 200mm f5.6 both lenses. Same subject, I was poinitng to a house in front of mine, focused at the directTv antenna and the 70-300 was quite great, while the 70-200 in both cases only fairly sharp, not much better than my very old sigma 28-300. The question is not about capabilities, I know 70-200 is still great I can shot in very dim light @2.8 and so on, but how could it be that bad in sharpness, it is a shame and a lack of honesty from most of the owners during the last 10 years LOL.
