Elephant Seal cow visits local estuary (8 images)

This seal has turned up at Marlo a small coastal village near the mouth of the Snowy River in the south east corner of the Australian mainland. Its a long way from home believed to be from Maquarie Island which half way between South Island of New Zealand and the Antartica.

Marlo is near my hometown and is a popular fishing, swimming and watersports spot. The seal has decided to occupy the water and beach near the local jetty.

It has been there for some 3 weeks and whilst a drawcard it is becoming a concern for the locals and wildlife officers. It is not friendly and can be very agressive, particulary kids and dogs.

Anyway had some fun photographing the seal. All with E-5 and 50-200mm SWD + EC2.0.

Having a snooze

Peacefully cruising around

Getting agitated

Open wide!

Making a charge at the photographer (me) who was standing on the lower part of the jetty a few inches above the water as it was high tide.

Hope you enjoy.
