One major difference I've noticed coming from the Panasonic 20mm 1.7 is that, while I was often waiting for the 20, the 17 is more often waiting for me...that is, I can't blame missed shots on this lens; it is ready when I raise the camera, and I shoot very quickly, often without breaking step. Also, the focal length is close to what is comfortable with me; the 20 always felt a tad long. The 17's manual focus ring works very well, though I don't have to use it as much as I did with the 20, which was not a fun experience. But it's there if I need it. Overall I'm quite happy with this lens. It will be a bit before I upload any photos with it as I tend to sit on photos for a bit until I have enough scale and distance to evaluate them properly.

In size it is a bit longer than the 20 but not as fat. Not as long as the 12 or 45 or any of the zooms. A pretty good size, still jacket-pocketable.
