If things aren't set straight quickly, it will only be a matter of time before Nikon is facing the dual dilemma of lost business and a class action lawsuit -- and both will be well deserved.

Unfortunately, it was most likely a decision high up in the corporation to make 'impact damage' a reflex diagnosis.  Which means they have already considered the cost of lost business and lawsuits and find the current policy 'sensible' in terms of the bottom line.  It will take a lot more than some scattered irate customers to make a difference.  Class action lawsuits would be more effective but it  is probably hard to base one on scattered $200-$1500 repairs.  If you look at the fx forum for a moment, you will find many members discussing how they are cleaning their own brand new D600 sensors.  No one is demanding a recall or some other fix that would be expensive for Nikon.
