This sort of customization is a fairly basic need.

+1 - agreed, as well.

At the very least, the camera should take a look at distance to subject and ambient light level. The processor already has this data from the AF and metering systems. This data should be used to come up with a more applicable combination of aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. The RX-1 auto mode is so simplistic, it's almost childish. $3000 should get you better.
