I agree, with a caveat

I can't believe I'm saying this, but my experience matches KR here.  A fast 50 is sharp, small, bright, and allows more DOF control.

In the 'mid' ranges, these attributes are just a bit more valuable for me than the FOV versatility a 24-70 zoom would bring.  But that's me, for my uses - it's not universal.
