Putting together your own system will yield higher performance (via overclocking) and much higher quality parts than what you'll get from an OEM like Dell or HP

  • 3.5ghz i7 3770k overclocked to 4.5ghz ($250 on sale, usual price is $300)
  • Gigabyte UD5H motherboard ($180)
  • OCZ ZX 1000W gold-rated efficient power supply ($130 after rebate)
  • 32GB DDR-1600 memory ($100)
  • Noctua NH-D14 heatsink/cooler ($80)
  • Cooler Master HAF 932 case ($120)
  • Gigabyte 650ti video card ($110 after rebate)
  • 2xSamsung 830 128GB SSDs ($150)

Nice rig, I suspect you can OC that even a bit more. My i7 2600k is stable at 4.8 with air cooling.

Your setup isn't quite complete, you need to add data drives. A D800 would fill those tiny SSDs in just a few photo shoots. Adding three 2TB drives in RAID-5 a good option.
