"OEM vs DIY".

Always difficult to know what the right course of action is.  Having owned two OEM machines that lasted about 3 years each (one was XPS-8000) I thought for my next PC I'd emphasize quality components, all the features I use, and none of the features that I do not use (like BlueTooth, BlueRay, WiFi, multi-TB HD).  Build a generally future-proof PC, with missing features easily added if ever needed.

So what I'm building uses a top tier i5 CPU, enterprise quality motherboard, 128 GB reliable SATA III SSD, 300 GB screaming fast high quality SATA III hdd, 16 GB name brand fast memory, great budget case, high efficiency name brand 400W-continuous PSUP, all the ports I'll ever need you need on mb and case.   Also, I'll stick with W7 since the benefit s and reliability of W8 has yet to be proven (to me).

Costs out at just under $720 (tax included).

Did I make the right decision ?  I'll let you know in about 3 years (or sooner, gulp!).
