Thank you for such a detailed answer; very much appreciated.

You are very welcome.

I'll have to sit with a cup of coffee and read this thoroughly.

Which one, in your opinion, is the most "plug and play"?

Most plug and play will be one of the M39 - EF mount adapters with focus confirmation chip. This will give you something like 1:3.5 magnification factor.

Your post should be a "sticky" for m-n lens owners!

Thanks again Brightcolours !!!

Some extra info. When pushed closer to 1:1 with extension tubes for instance, the lens starts to show very heavy focus field curvature. Best keep it above 1:2.

AF confirmation only will work upto f5.6 on my APS-C camera. Maybe the 5D mk III will allow focus confirmation at f8.

Maybe I am wrong, but I think that if you reverse mount the lens, best performance will be gotten at a distance from the front of the reverse mounted lens to the sensor at about 22cm distance, so this is what the bellows then should be able to reach. The back element will then be about 43mm from the subject and the lens will give 4:1 macro magnification (and very sharp).
