Except Fuji EXR, which gives you the option of increasing dynamic range in the reduced-resolution image.

This can be done just as well in your raw developer if you shoot raw, with added flexibility.

Very true, especially because you can separately control chroma and luminance noise reduction in the RAW conversion. Corel Aftershot is very good at this, and fast, and cheap.
