Perfectly normal

All cameras with zoom lenses have a path through which air can travel. This is especially important with weather sealed lenses: if there wasn't a path for air on lenses that are not internal zoom, you simply wouldn't be able to zoom the lens. The path is required in order to equalize pressure. In the vast majority of cameras that have eyepieces, this path terminates at the eyepiece.

It would be crazy to think this path doesn't have some reasonable protection against the ingress of dust.
