Hi.
I am new to SLR cameras and have a Canon Rebel T3 that is only a week old. I used it Saturday night and all was fine. Sunday I took it out again and now I am not able to focus the camera at all using my 18-55mm lens. I did play with some of the settings on M as I was hoping to get a good picture of my kids in front of the Christmas tree but I don't think that should have effected the focus on fully automatic. Please tell me this is just a setting of some sort and not the lens.
Lens tries to autofocus, but can't lock on a subject? -
- wipe clean the electrical contacts on the lens and camera mount.
- check there there's no lint/dust blocking the AF sensors (the little holes at the bottom of the mirror box).
Lens does not attempt autofocus?
- check that the AF/MF switch on the lens is set to AF.
- check that C.Fn.7 has not been inadvertently set to =1 or =3 which moves AF activation from the shutter button half-press to the rear thumb-button for AEL (*). But this would only affect AF function in P, Av, Tv, M modes and not 'green box' or the icon exposure modes.
