Kaspersky IS 2012 can be updated to the 2013 version for free.  Just download KIS 2013, uninstall KIS2012 but tick the option to keep license data, then install KIS2013.

Kaspersky will always delay bootup by about 10 seconds in my experience, but defragging definitely keeps it under control.  There are faster AV programs but Kaspersky just protects better during real-world internet usage IMHO.
