Professional printing vs Epson 3800

I have a highly detailed color print for which I could not obtain satisfactory detail using my Epson 3800.  I print on Hahnemule Photo Rag Pearl using the profile downloaded from Hahnemule.

A professional photographer I recently met suggested that I use a commercial printer, so I tried one I found online that prints on Kodak Endura lustre paper.  I sent the print there and the print they sent back was indeed better in subtle details than what I have been able to obtain from the Epson 3800.

In the past I have been pretty happy with the output of the 3800, but this particular print had difficult detail (seaweed underwater) that I just could not bring out with the 3800, and that the commercial printer was able to do better.

I would welcome input on similar experiences, or perhaps whether my choice of paper was not ideal for brining out subtle details.

thanks very much

Jordan
