Re: Walkabout lens

I have the 28-300 and the 24-120 F4 lenses.  I enjoy both on my D800E and both have their pros and cons.  As far as IQ goes, the 24-120 is better and sharper wide open.  The 28-300mm needs to be stopped down for clarity.  The 28-300 has great range but is heavier than the 24-120 (which is no lightweight either).  Finally, the bokeh is better with the 24-120mm.

So if I had to choose one, which would I choose? It really depends on your shooting style for walkabouts.  If you want to grab a few wildlife shots while you're walking around, then the 28-300 is a better choice. However, if you prefer landscapes or portraits, then the 24-120 is the better choice.
