The RX100 is not suppose to compete directly with G1X as the canon is twice bigger and heavier............ even Canon think that there is room for smaller camera that's why they just release the G15 (wich is slightly bigger than the RX100)

SEE HERE... @ ISO 6400 (RX100 max ISO)

only the A99 surpasses the humble CANON PowerShot G1X

not even Sony's SLT-A77/NEX-7/NEX-5N can come close to the PowerShot G1X for IQ (sensor); the ONLY advantage Sony has with the NEX is they can have better optics, because of interchangeability... NOT the sensor at all.

Sony APS C sensor are way ahead of the G1X sensor in ALL area , High ISO , dynamic range and resolution, check at DXO Mark

ALL Canon will do is simply improve upon the G1X for it's AF/Lens, not its sensor (even if it does; it is way ahead)

In fract that's false the G1X sensor is behing competion even behind the smaller Olympys OMD 5 m4/3 sensor.

wrt IQ, it is actually quite simple... a 1" sensor (Sony or Nikon), cannot compete with a 1.5" sensor (Canon).

In theory that's true and the G1X is better in low light than the RX100 .............. but as the sensor is now olod and underperforming the sony is better in good light with a better resolution and a MUCH better dynamique range. That's a shame for canon considering the big difference of size beetween the two sensor.

the only DISADVANTAGE the PowerShot has is not its sensor but its fixed zoom lens (limited AF), that's it.

and any/every AF system gets worse when it starts to get dim/dark (all mfrs)
